First Day on our plot

February 27, 2009

Wednesday February 25th 2009

This week we had a meeting of interested people. We held it in the orchard ( www.treewise.org.uk) which overlooks our plot.  Five  families signed up which means we now have 9 families of about 17 adults and 15 children, all keen to get their hands dirty!

The site has a lot of rusty wire and other hazards so we are getting help from members of the local LETS scheme to clear it before we work on site with the children. We will also need to fence it.  But everyone is so into it that we have decided to meet once a week starting now….So each Wednedsay morning we will be working in the orchard getting it ready for the toddler groups and the after school club.
We have also decided to add to the single apple tree at the bottom of the garden by planting a couple more dwarf trees……so clearing the lower corners of brambles will be the next important task. We also need to move lots of rubble..including some broken asbestos roof sheets..One trailer gone to the dump already and lots more to go….so the next team will need some muscle!  Why do human beings collect so much junk!

Can’t wait to get digging

Our breadmaking, food growing, family learning project is about to begin..we are waiting for funding to officially get started but while we wait we gather our greatest resource..something that will not cost us anything…. but without it we simply won’t get it off the ground…people!
